Which actor plays Jim Phelps in the first Mission: Impossible film?

Jon Voight plays Jim Phelps in the first Mission: Impossible film.

Jim Phelps is the leader of Ethan Hunt’s IMF team at the beginning of the 1996 film. The Prague mission goes disastrously wrong, and Ethan is forced to investigate the betrayal after most of the team is killed.

Voight’s casting connected the film to the original television series, in which Jim Phelps was the team leader played by Peter Graves. The movie reinterprets the character within a darker spy-thriller plot directed by Brian De Palma.

This role is sometimes confused with other members of the Prague team. Emilio Estevez plays Jack Harmon, while Jean Reno plays Franz Krieger. Laurence Fishburne does not appear in the first film.
