Robert Patrick played the shape-shifting T-1000 in James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
The T-1000 is a liquid-metal android sent from the future to assassinate John Connor. Unlike the original Terminator, portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger, it can mimic people and objects, making it a more elusive antagonist. Patrick’s lean appearance and controlled performance helped create a striking contrast with Schwarzenegger’s reprogrammed protector.
Terminator 2 was released in 1991 as a sequel to The Terminator. Its visual effects, especially the T-1000’s transformation scenes, were widely praised and became a landmark in computer-generated imagery. Industrial Light & Magic created many of the film’s effects, combining digital techniques with practical makeup and stunt work.
Robert Patrick later became known for television roles including FBI agent John Doggett in The X-Files. A common mix-up is confusing the T-1000 with the first film’s Terminator: both are artificial beings from the future, but the T-1000 is the shapeshifting model played by Patrick.
