Which actor played Scrooge in the 1951 film Scrooge, also known as A Christmas Carol?

The story behind the answer

Alastair Sim played Scrooge in the 1951 film Scrooge, also known as A Christmas Carol. His performance as Ebenezer Scrooge is frequently regarded as one of the most admired screen versions of Charles Dickens’s miser.

The British film was directed by Brian Desmond Hurst and adapted by Noel Langley from Dickens’s 1843 novella. Sim portrays Scrooge as a harsh businessman whose encounters with the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come lead him toward repentance and generosity.

The cast includes Mervyn Johns as Bob Cratchit, Hermione Baddeley as Mrs. Cratchit, Michael Hordern as Jacob Marley, and Patrick Macnee as the voice of the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. The film was released in the United Kingdom in 1951 and later distributed in the United States under the title A Christmas Carol.

Viewers sometimes answer George C. Scott or Michael Caine because both actors played Scrooge in later well-known adaptations. Scott starred in a 1984 television film, while Caine played the character opposite the Muppets in 1992.
