Which actor played James Bond in the 1967 non-Eon film Casino Royale?
Answer
David Niven
Answer
David Niven
David Niven played James Bond in the 1967 non-Eon film Casino Royale.
This Casino Royale is a broad spy comedy made outside the regular Eon Productions series. Niven plays an older, retired Bond who is brought back into service to combat SMERSH. The production uses several actors in roles connected to the Bond identity, including Peter Sellers and Ursula Andress.
The film was directed by several credited directors, including John Huston, Joseph McGrath, Robert Parrish and Ken Hughes. It was based loosely on Ian Fleming’s first Bond novel, whose screen rights were separate from the rights used by Eon Productions.
The title is often confused with Eon’s 2006 Casino Royale, which stars Daniel Craig and presents a much more serious reboot of Bond’s origin as a 00 agent. David Niven did not play Bond in the official Eon series.
