Which actor played Beyoncé’s character Deena Jones in Dreamgirls?

Beyoncé Knowles played Deena Jones in the 2006 film Dreamgirls.

Dreamgirls, directed by Bill Condon, is a musical drama adapted from the Broadway musical of the same name. Beyoncé portrayed Deena Jones, a member of the fictional singing group the Dreams who becomes its lead singer and later a solo star.

The film also starred Jamie Foxx as Curtis Taylor Jr., Jennifer Hudson as Effie White, and Eddie Murphy as James “Thunder” Early. Jennifer Hudson won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Effie.

Deena Jones is a fictional character, although the story draws on aspects of the history of Motown and vocal groups such as the Supremes. Beyoncé’s casting is sometimes overshadowed by Hudson’s award-winning role, but Beyoncé is the actor who played Deena.
