Which AC/DC song was their first single released in 1974?

The story behind the answer

AC/DC’s first single released in 1974 was “Can I Sit Next to You, Girl.”

The single was issued in Australia on July 22, 1974, and was the band’s debut release. It featured Dave Evans on lead vocals, before Bon Scott joined AC/DC, and reached number 50 on the Australian chart on August 26. The song was written by Angus Young and Malcolm Young, making it the group’s first original composition.

Listeners sometimes confuse this recording with the later version titled “Can I Sit Next to You Girl,” which removed the comma from the title. After Bon Scott joined, AC/DC rearranged and re-recorded the song for the Australia-only album T.N.T. in 1975 and the international version of High Voltage in 1976. The original 1974 single had a different lineup, including drummer Colin Burgess and George Young on bass and production. Its glam-rock presentation also predates the tougher image and sound that later defined AC/DC.
