Which AC/DC album was their first released after the death of Bon Scott?

The story behind the answer

Back in Black was AC/DC’s first album released after the death of Bon Scott. Scott died in London on February 19, 1980, shortly after the band’s breakthrough with Highway to Hell.

The remaining members briefly considered ending AC/DC, but instead recruited Brian Johnson, formerly the singer of the British band Geordie. Johnson joined Angus and Malcolm Young, Cliff Williams, and Phil Rudd for the follow-up album.

Recorded in the Bahamas during April and May 1980, Back in Black reunited AC/DC with producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange, who had also produced Highway to Hell. Its black cover was designed as a sign of mourning for Scott, although the album itself became a celebration of the band’s survival and new era.

A common mix-up is choosing Highway to Hell: it was Scott’s final album, but Back in Black was the first released after his death. The 1980 record became one of the best-selling albums in music history.
