Which AC/DC album was the first to feature Brian Johnson as lead vocalist?
Answer
Back in Black
Answer
Back in Black
Back in Black was the first AC/DC album to feature Brian Johnson as lead vocalist.
Released in 1980, the album followed the sudden death of the band’s original singer, Bon Scott, in February of that year. AC/DC considered ending the group, but ultimately decided to continue and recruited Johnson, who had previously fronted the British band Geordie. The album was recorded at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, during April and May 1980.
Back in Black was designed partly as a tribute to Scott. Its all-black cover represented mourning, while songs such as “You Shook Me All Night Long,” “Hells Bells,” and the title track introduced Johnson’s voice to AC/DC’s international audience. Robert John “Mutt” Lange, who had produced Highway to Hell, also produced the album.
The record became one of rock’s biggest commercial successes, selling tens of millions of copies worldwide. Its success proved that AC/DC could continue after losing a major frontman. The later album For Those About to Rock We Salute You was Johnson’s second AC/DC studio album, not his first.
