Which 2026–27 Premier League opening-weekend match was the only fixture played on Monday, 24 August?

Fulham versus Chelsea was the only 2026–27 Premier League opening-weekend match played on Monday, 24 August.

The fixture took place at Craven Cottage and ended with Chelsea winning 3–2. It completed the first match round after the other nine games had been staged from Friday through Sunday.

The scheduling meant that the opening round was not finished until four days after Arsenal and Coventry City had started the season. Such staggered rounds are common in the Premier League because broadcasters select matches for different kickoff windows.

Fulham and Chelsea were also involved in a notable managerial meeting. Álvaro Arbeloa led Fulham, while Xabi Alonso led Chelsea, giving the match an additional storyline beyond its place in the calendar.
