Which 2026–27 Premier League opening-weekend match kicked off at 16:30 on Sunday?

Newcastle United versus Liverpool was the 16:30 Sunday kick-off in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.

The match took place at St James’ Park on Sunday 23 August 2026. It was the third Sunday fixture, following Brighton & Hove Albion versus Aston Villa and Manchester City versus AFC Bournemouth, both scheduled for 14:00.

The game brought together Newcastle and Liverpool in one of the opening round’s highest-profile fixtures. Newcastle were under new manager Matthias Jaissle, while Liverpool began the season with Andoni Iraola as manager.

The match finished 2–2, making it one of the opening weekend’s two draws. The other draw was Bournemouth’s 1–1 home result against Everton in the following match round, not part of the opening weekend, so it should not be confused with this fixture.
