Which 2026–27 Premier League opening-weekend match ended 4–0, the largest home win?

The story behind the answer

Brighton & Hove Albion’s 4–0 win over Aston Villa was the largest home win of the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.

The match was played on Sunday 23 August 2026. Brighton scored four times and Aston Villa failed to reply, producing the biggest home victory in the opening round. The result also made Brighton the weekend’s highest-scoring winning team.

Other opening-weekend victories included Arsenal’s 3–0 win over Coventry City, Brentford’s 3–0 win over Tottenham Hotspur and Hull City’s 2–0 victory over Manchester United. None matched Brighton’s four-goal margin. Manchester City won 2–1 against Bournemouth, while Chelsea beat Fulham 3–2 away.

The result is sometimes confused with Brighton’s later 5–0 away victory at Coventry City, which became the season’s biggest away win at that stage. Those were separate fixtures. On opening weekend, Brighton played at home and beat Aston Villa 4–0.
