Which 2026–27 Premier League opening-round match was scheduled for 20:00 BST on Friday 21 August?

Arsenal vs Coventry City was scheduled for 20:00 BST on Friday 21 August in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.

It was the first match of the season and was played at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal entered as defending champions, while Coventry City were newly promoted after a long absence from the top division.

The fixture had a clear contrast between title holders and newcomers. Coventry’s return followed a 25-year gap from their previous Premier League season, making the pairing one of the most anticipated elements of the published schedule.

Other opening-round matches occupied different slots. Hull City versus Manchester United was the first Saturday lunchtime game, Brentford versus Tottenham was the Saturday evening fixture, and Fulham versus Chelsea was the Monday night conclusion.
