Which 2026–27 Premier League opening-round fixture was the only match scheduled for Friday 21 August 2026?

Arsenal versus Coventry City was the only 2026–27 Premier League opening-round fixture scheduled for Friday 21 August 2026.

The match was played at Emirates Stadium and Arsenal won 3–0. It served as the season opener, with the defending champions beginning their title defence against newly promoted Coventry City. The kick-off was scheduled for 20:00 BST.

The remaining opening-round fixtures were spread across Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Saturday included Hull City versus Manchester United, three 15:00 matches and Brentford versus Tottenham Hotspur. Sunday featured Manchester City versus Bournemouth, Brighton versus Aston Villa and Newcastle United versus Liverpool. Fulham versus Chelsea completed the round on Monday.

Coventry had returned to the top flight after a 25-year absence, the longest absence for a previous Premier League club in the Premier League era at that point.
