Renaissance is the Beyoncé album that begins her three-part project known as the Renaissance trilogy.
Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance is Beyoncé’s seventh studio album. It is also commonly identified as Act I of a planned trilogy. The album’s sound draws heavily from house, disco, dance, funk, and ballroom traditions, with many collaborators and samples connecting it to earlier club music.
The lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s first solo US number-one single since “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008. Other prominent tracks include “Alien Superstar,” “Cuff It,” and “Virgo’s Groove.” The album was nominated for multiple Grammy Awards and won Best Dance/Electronic Music Album.
The trilogy’s second act is Cowboy Carter, released in 2024. Beyoncé described the project as a series of acts rather than simply a conventional album sequence. A common mistake is to call Renaissance her sixth album, but Lemonade occupies that position; Renaissance is her seventh.
