Renaissance began Beyoncé’s planned three-part project known as the Renaissance trilogy.
Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance is Beyoncé’s seventh studio album. It was presented as “act i” and later followed by Cowboy Carter, identified as “act ii.” The project’s trilogy structure connects the albums while allowing each one to explore a different musical and cultural direction.
Renaissance draws heavily on dance, house, disco, funk, and Black queer club traditions. Its lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s eighth solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. Other tracks include “Cuff It,” “Alien Superstar,” and “Virgo’s Groove.”
The album received nine nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards and won four awards, including Best Dance/Electronic Music Album. That victory made Beyoncé the most awarded artist in Grammy history at the time. Renaissance should not be confused with the later concert film Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, which documents her world tour.
