The 2014 film directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Russell Crowe as Noah is Noah.
Noah is a biblical epic released in 2014. Darren Aronofsky directed it, co-wrote the screenplay with Ari Handel, and produced it with several collaborators. Russell Crowe plays the title character, while Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Anthony Hopkins, and Ray Winstone appear in major roles.
The film draws on the Genesis flood story but also incorporates material from later Jewish traditions and substantial original fantasy elements. Its portrayal of the Watchers, the world before the Flood, and Noah’s family is therefore a cinematic interpretation rather than a scene-by-scene adaptation of Genesis.
The film was released in several countries amid public debate about religious representation. It earned more than $350 million worldwide, making it a significant commercial release. It should not be confused with earlier films titled Noah or with Darren Aronofsky’s unrelated 2006 film The Fountain.
