B’Day is the 2006 Beyoncé album that includes the hit single “Irreplaceable.”
B’Day was Beyoncé’s second solo studio album and was released on September 4, 2006, her 25th birthday. The title combines the letter B with “day,” creating a reference to both Beyoncé and her birthday. The album followed the success of Dangerously in Love and expanded her sound with energetic R&B, pop, funk, and hip-hop influences.
“Irreplaceable” became one of the album’s defining songs. Written by a team that included Ne-Yo, Tor Erik Hermansen, Mikkel Storleer Eriksen, Espen Lind, and Amund Bjørklund, it centers on a breakup and the singer’s insistence on independence. The song topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for ten weeks.
B’Day also produced “Déjà Vu,” featuring Jay-Z, and “Beautiful Liar,” a later duet with Shakira. The album’s title and release date can cause confusion with later birthday-related Beyoncé projects, but B’Day specifically refers to the 2006 studio album.
