Which 2000 PlayStation Spyro game is the third installment in the series?

The story behind the answer

The 2000 PlayStation game that is the third installment in the series is Spyro: Year of the Dragon.

Developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, Year of the Dragon follows Spyro's first two adventures and was the third mainline Spyro game. Its plot begins during a celebration held once every twelve years, when a sorceress and her apprentice Bianca steal the newly hatched dragon eggs from the Dragon Realms.

The game broadened the series by adding playable companion characters, including Sheila the Kangaroo, Sgt. James Byrd, Bentley the Yeti, and Agent 9. It also introduced more minigames and varied gameplay alongside the familiar platforming, collecting, gliding, charging, and flame attacks.

Year of the Dragon was the last Spyro title released for the original PlayStation and Insomniac's final Spyro game. It is sometimes confused with Enter the Dragonfly, but that 2002 multiplatform title came later and was developed by other studios. Year of the Dragon was later remade in Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
