Which 1991 Metallica song later received the sequel “The Unforgiven II” on the album Reload?

The story behind the answer

“The Unforgiven” later received the sequel “The Unforgiven II” on Metallica's album Reload.

The original “The Unforgiven” appeared on Metallica, the 1991 album commonly called The Black Album. It was released as the second single on October 28, 1991, following “Enter Sandman.” The song explores an individual's struggle against forces attempting to control or subjugate them.

The sequel appeared on Reload in 1997, and a third installment, “The Unforgiven III,” appeared on Death Magnetic in 2008. The three songs form a recurring title sequence rather than a trilogy contained within The Black Album.

Musically, the first song reverses the structure of a familiar power-ballad formula: its verses are heavy and distorted, while its chorus is softer and more melodic. Kirk Hammett's guitar solo was largely improvised after earlier ideas failed to satisfy him.
