Where was U2 bassist Adam Clayton born?

The story behind the answer

U2 bassist Adam Clayton was born in Chinnor, Oxfordshire.

Adam Clayton was born on 13 March 1960 in Chinnor, a village in Oxfordshire, England. His family moved to Malahide, County Dublin, when he was young, and he grew up in Ireland. That move is why Clayton is closely associated with Dublin’s music scene and with the Irish band U2, despite being born in England.

Clayton became U2’s bassist after answering Larry Mullen Jr.’s school notice in 1976. Unlike some members of the group, he initially had little formal musical training, but his energetic, melodic bass style became central to U2’s sound. He also served as an important practical organizer during the band’s early years.

The birthplaces of U2 members are easy to mix up. Bono, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr. were born in Ireland, while Clayton was born in England and raised largely in the Dublin area.
