Where did Tesla move its corporate headquarters in 2021?
Answer
Austin, Texas
Answer
Austin, Texas
Tesla moved its corporate headquarters to Austin, Texas, in 2021.
Tesla announced the headquarters move at its annual shareholder meeting in October 2021. The company relocated from Palo Alto, California, to a site near its developing vehicle factory in Austin. The Texas facility, commonly called Gigafactory Texas, later became a major production site for Tesla vehicles and battery-related operations.
The move did not mean Tesla abandoned California manufacturing immediately. Tesla continued operating its Fremont factory, which had been the company’s main vehicle-assembly plant in the United States. Tesla also retained significant engineering, service, and other operations in California.
Austin is therefore different from Fremont and Palo Alto: Austin became the corporate headquarters, Fremont remained an important vehicle factory, and Palo Alto had been the former headquarters location. Tesla’s move reflected its expanding operations in Texas and the company’s broader geographic growth.
