When did the PlayStation 4 launch in North America?

The story behind the answer

The PlayStation 4 launched in North America on November 15, 2013.

Sony introduced the PlayStation 4 as the successor to the PlayStation 3. The system used an x86-64 AMD-based architecture, a major change from the PlayStation 3’s unusual Cell processor design, and it emphasized social sharing, online connectivity, and accessible development tools.

The console reached Europe and Australia on November 29, 2013, after its North American debut. Its launch lineup included Killzone Shadow Fall, Knack, and Resogun, while later exclusives such as Bloodborne, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and God of War became important reasons to own the system.

The date is sometimes confused with the PlayStation 4’s Japanese release, which occurred later, on February 22, 2014. North America was one of the console’s first launch regions.
