What year was Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands released?

The story behind the answer

Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands was released in 1990.

The film follows Edward, an artificial man with scissors instead of hands, after the death of his inventor leaves him living alone in a Gothic mansion. Avon saleswoman Peg Boggs brings him into her suburban community, where his unusual appearance and talents attract attention.

Johnny Depp played Edward, and Winona Ryder played Kim Boggs, the teenage daughter of Peg’s family. The cast also included Dianne Wiest, Anthony Michael Hall, Kathy Baker, and Vincent Price as Edward’s inventor.

Edward Scissorhands was Burton’s first film with composer Danny Elfman after their earlier collaboration on Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, and Batman. Its visual contrast between the dark mansion and bright suburb helped establish the director’s recognizable fairy-tale Gothic style. The film is sometimes mistakenly dated to 1989 because it followed Burton’s Batman, which was released that year.
