The Park Stage was introduced at Glastonbury in 2007. It arrived as part of The Park, a new area designed by Emily Eavis on the hillside overlooking the festival site.
The Park quickly became known for offering a more intimate setting than the Pyramid Stage, with a mix of established artists, emerging acts, surprise appearances and unusual performances. Its opening-year programme included artists such as Spinal Tap, Pete Doherty and Gruff Rhys, while the BBC also launched its Introducing stage in the area.
The date is sometimes confused with 2008 because Glastonbury added another nearby field then. That space was not officially named by organisers, but festivalgoers called it Flagtopia because of the many flags there. The Park itself, including its main stage, belongs to the 2007 expansion.
That first Park year also coincided with a very wet festival. More than 700 acts performed across over 80 stages, and the event introduced major flood defences after the disastrous conditions of 2005.
