What year was James Bond’s first film, Dr. No, released?

The story behind the answer

James Bond’s first film, Dr. No, was released in 1962.

The film premiered in London on 5 October 1962 and introduced Sean Connery as British secret agent James Bond. It was adapted from Ian Fleming’s 1958 novel of the same name and was produced by Eon Productions.

Dr. No sends Bond to Jamaica to investigate the disappearance of fellow agent John Strangways. The case leads him to the island of Crab Key and the villainous scientist Julius No. Ursula Andress played Honey Ryder, while Joseph Wiseman portrayed Dr. No.

Some viewers mistakenly identify From Russia with Love as the first Bond film because it established many of the series’ familiar features more fully. However, Dr. No came first and began the long-running official film series. It also introduced the famous gun-barrel opening, although the sequence was created by Maurice Binder rather than appearing in Fleming’s novels.
