What were the stated dimensions of Noah’s Ark in Genesis?

The story behind the answer

Genesis gives Noah’s Ark dimensions as 300 by 50 by 30 cubits.

Genesis 6:15 lists the Ark’s length as 300 cubits, its width as 50 cubits, and its height as 30 cubits. The biblical unit called a cubit was based roughly on the length of a forearm, but its exact historical measurement varied, so modern conversions are estimates.

Using a commonly cited cubit of about 18 inches produces approximate dimensions of 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. Those conversions are not stated directly in Genesis and should not be treated as exact measurements.

The proportions create a long, broad vessel rather than a conventional ship designed for speed. Genesis also mentions three decks, a roof, a side entrance, and a window, adding structural details around the basic dimensions.
