Under a Blood Red Sky
Answer
Under a Blood Red Sky
U2’s first live album, released in 1983 after the War Tour, was Under a Blood Red Sky.
The album was released on 21 November 1983 and contains eight performances recorded at concerts in Boston, St. Goarshausen, and Denver. Although it is a live document from multiple venues, the Denver performance at Red Rocks became especially famous through the accompanying concert film.
The record captures U2 at an important transition point: the band had moved from the urgent post-punk sound of its early releases toward the larger, emotionally expansive performances that would define its later career. “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “The Electric Co.” are among its best-known live moments.
The title is sometimes shortened informally, but the canonical album title is Under a Blood Red Sky. It should not be confused with Rattle and Hum, a later hybrid studio-and-live project.
