The Xbox Series S launched with a 512 GB internal solid-state drive.
Microsoft introduced the Series S alongside the Xbox Series X in November 2020 as a smaller, lower-priced, all-digital console. Its built-in SSD provided fast loading and supported features such as Quick Resume, but its usable space was lower than the advertised capacity because system software occupied part of the drive.
The Series S also differed from the Series X in several other ways. It had less memory, a less powerful graphics processor, and no optical disc drive. Microsoft positioned it primarily for digital games and services such as Xbox Game Pass.
Later Series S models and revisions introduced different storage capacities, including a 1 TB version. Those later products should not be confused with the original launch configuration, which used a 512 GB SSD.
