The Xbox 360 supported video output up to 1080p.
Microsoft designed the Xbox 360 for the high-definition television era. The console could output several standard and high-definition formats, including 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p, depending on the game, display connection, and system settings. Its dashboard and media features also supported high-definition presentation.
A common mix-up is between 1080p output and a game’s internal rendering resolution. Many Xbox 360 games rendered below 1080p and then used scaling to produce a 1080p signal. Therefore, a console being set to 1080p did not mean every game internally rendered at that resolution.
The Xbox 360 initially used component video and VGA options on compatible setups. Later models added HDMI, simplifying connection to modern televisions and receivers.
