What was the title of the Christmas Eve 1925 story that first introduced Winnie-the-Pooh by name?

The story behind the answer

The Christmas Eve 1925 story that first introduced Winnie-the-Pooh by name was “The Wrong Sort of Bees.”

A. A. Milne wrote the story for the London newspaper Evening News, which published it on 24 December 1925. E. H. Shepard’s illustrations accompanied this early appearance of Pooh.

The story was later adapted as the first chapter of Winnie-the-Pooh, Milne’s book published in 1926. That chapter has a much longer title, “In Which We Are Introduced to Winnie-the-Pooh and Some Bees and the Stories Begin,” so readers can confuse the chapter title with the earlier newspaper story’s title.

This Christmas publication came between Pooh’s earlier appearance as Edward Bear in Milne’s poetry and the first full Pooh story collection. The 1926 book established the familiar cast and the Hundred Acre Wood setting for a wide readership.
