What was the title of Metallica’s 2021 album of artists covering The Black Album songs?

The title of Metallica’s 2021 album of artists covering The Black Album songs is The Metallica Blacklist.

The project was released as part of the 30th-anniversary campaign for Metallica. It features versions of songs from the 1991 album performed by a wide range of artists from rock, metal, pop, country, electronic, and other musical traditions. The collection demonstrates how broadly the original songwriting had traveled beyond its heavy-metal setting.

The Blacklist is separate from the 2021 remastered edition of Metallica itself. The remaster preserves the band’s original recordings, while The Metallica Blacklist presents outside interpretations. Proceeds and associated releases were connected with charitable causes, adding a benefit component to the anniversary project.

The title can be confused with the album’s nickname or with the expanded deluxe box set. The exact name is The Metallica Blacklist, and it refers to the multi-artist covers album rather than a new studio record by Metallica.
