James Cameron’s 2022 sequel to Avatar is titled Avatar: The Way of Water.
The film was released in December 2022 and returns to the moon Pandora more than a decade after the original Avatar. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña reprise their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri, who are raising a family while facing renewed human conflict.
A major part of the sequel takes place around Pandora’s oceans. The Sully family seeks refuge with the Metkayina, a reef-dwelling Na’vi clan whose culture and physical adaptations differ from those of the forest-based Omaticaya.
The Way of Water became one of the highest-grossing films in cinema history and won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. It is the second film in Cameron’s planned Avatar series, followed by Avatar: Fire and Ash, released in 2025.
