“Crazy in Love” was Beyoncé’s first solo single to reach number one in the United Kingdom.
The song was released in 2003 as the lead single from Dangerously in Love, Beyoncé’s first solo studio album. It features Jay-Z and combines a prominent brass hook with a strong R&B and hip-hop rhythm.
“Crazy in Love” topped the UK Singles Chart as well as the US Billboard Hot 100. Its international success established Beyoncé as a solo artist beyond the United States and helped make the track one of the defining pop-R&B singles of the early 2000s.
The single’s title can be confused with Beyoncé’s later songs “Déjà Vu” and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” both major international hits but released in different periods. “Baby Boy” was also a successful early solo single, but its UK chart performance was not the milestone described here.
