Cowboy Carter is Beyoncé’s 2024 album inspired by country and American roots music.
The album was released on March 29, 2024, through Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. It is Beyoncé’s eighth solo studio album and the second act of her planned three-act project, following Renaissance. The record combines country, western, folk, blues, rock, pop, and R&B influences.
Its singles included “Texas Hold ’Em” and “16 Carriages.” “Texas Hold ’Em” made Beyoncé the first Black woman to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. The album’s title also reflects the stage name “Cowboy Carter,” which Beyoncé used in the project’s promotional identity.
Cowboy Carter is not simply a country remake album. It uses the genre as a framework for examining Black musical history and the relationship between Black artists and country music. The album was widely discussed for bringing Beyoncé into a genre where her earlier work had not usually been categorized.
