Beyoncé’s 2022 studio album centered on dance and club music was Renaissance.
Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance was presented as the first act of a planned trilogy. Its sound draws on house, disco, funk, dance-pop, and ballroom traditions, with extensive sampling and interpolation of earlier dance music.
The album’s lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s eighth solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. Renaissance was widely praised for foregrounding Black and queer dance-music histories while creating a polished contemporary pop record.
It is distinct from The Gift, her 2019 companion album to The Lion King, and from Cowboy Carter, her 2024 album exploring country and American roots music.
