Beyoncé's 2022 album, the first act of a planned trilogy, was Renaissance.
Renaissance was released on July 29, 2022, as Beyoncé's seventh studio album. It was described as the first act of a three-act project, later followed by Cowboy Carter in 2024. The album explores dance, house, disco, funk, R&B, and electronic music.
Its lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé's first solo Billboard Hot 100 number-one single since “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008. Other tracks include “Cuff It,” “Alien Superstar,” and “Virgo's Groove.”
Renaissance received critical acclaim and won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album. Its historical importance also comes from the many Black and queer dance-music traditions it foregrounds. The album is not the same project as Cowboy Carter, whose country-focused musical palette forms the second act.
