Renaissance was Beyoncé’s 2022 album and the first part of her planned three-part project.
Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance is a dance, pop, disco, and house-influenced album. Its lead single, “Break My Soul,” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and incorporated elements associated with New Orleans bounce and earlier dance music.
The album includes “Cuff It,” “Alien Superstar,” “Virgo’s Groove,” and “Plastic Off the Sofa.” Beyoncé credited Black and queer pioneers of dance music, house, disco, and ballroom culture as important influences on the project.
Renaissance received nine Grammy nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards and won four, including Best Dance/Electronic Music Album. Its title is sometimes mistaken for the name of the complete trilogy, but it specifically identifies the first album in the series.
