Beyoncé’s 2022 album that began a planned three-part project was Renaissance.
Renaissance was released on July 29, 2022, as Beyoncé’s seventh studio album. It was presented as the first act of a three-act project and marked her return to a full-length solo studio album after Lemonade in 2016.
The album draws heavily on house, dance, disco, funk, and electronic music. Its lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s first solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 since “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008.
Renaissance was praised for celebrating Black and queer dance-music traditions, including the influence of club and ballroom cultures. Its follow-up, Cowboy Carter, was released in 2024 and served as the second act. The title is sometimes confused with the tour name Renaissance World Tour, which promoted the album but was not the album itself.
