Beyoncé’s 2022 album inspired partly by disco and dance music was Renaissance.
Renaissance was released on July 29, 2022, as the first act of a planned three-part project. Beyoncé described the album as a place of freedom and escape, and its production draws on house, disco, funk, dance-pop, and R&B traditions.
The album includes “Break My Soul,” “Cuff It,” and “Alien Superstar.” Its credits connect it to a wide range of earlier musicians through samples and interpolations, including Donna Summer, Robin S., Right Said Fred, and The-Dream. The record also celebrates Black and queer dance-music cultures.
Renaissance debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album. Its release began a new album cycle after the critical and commercial impact of Lemonade and Beyoncé’s subsequent live performances.
