Beyoncé’s 2019 Coachella concert documentary and live album were titled Homecoming.
Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé premiered on Netflix on April 17, 2019. It documents and presents material from Beyoncé’s 2018 performances at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California. The concerts became widely known for their large marching-band-inspired production, detailed choreography, and celebration of historically Black colleges and universities.
The film combines rehearsal footage, backstage material, performance sequences, and Beyoncé’s own reflections on preparation and motherhood. The accompanying live album, Homecoming: The Live Album, was released at the same time as the film.
Homecoming is not the same project as Black Is King, which was released in 2020 and connected to The Lion King: The Gift. It is also different from Life Is but a Dream, Beyoncé’s 2013 autobiographical documentary. The title “Homecoming” refers to the event’s cultural and collegiate associations as well as the performance project.
