LEGO’s first Star Wars X-wing Fighter set was numbered 7140.
LEGO Star Wars debuted in 1999 as a licensed construction theme tied to the original trilogy and the release of Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace. Set 7140, X-wing Fighter, was among the earliest products in that launch-era assortment and represented Luke Skywalker’s recognizable Rebel starfighter.
The set used LEGO’s traditional brick-building system to recreate a vehicle that had previously appeared mainly as an action toy, model kit, or die-cast vehicle. Its early numbering is often confused with other first-generation Star Wars sets, including 7150 TIE Fighter & Y-wing and 7190 Millennium Falcon.
LEGO Star Wars later expanded into playsets, minifigure-scale vehicles, display models, helmets, dioramas, and large Ultimate Collector Series releases. The 7140 set is historically important because it belongs to the theme’s first retail generation, not because it was the largest or most complex X-wing model.
