West Bromwich Albion drew 5–5 with Manchester United in the 2013 Premier League’s highest-scoring draw.
The extraordinary match took place at The Hawthorns on 19 May 2013, the final day of the season. Manchester United raced into a commanding lead, but West Brom produced a remarkable comeback to secure a point. Romelu Lukaku completed a hat-trick with the equaliser, scoring the 17th goal of his outstanding season.
The result was memorable for another reason: it was Sir Alex Ferguson’s final match as Manchester United manager. He had already guided United to the title, his 13th Premier League championship, and was retiring after the campaign.
The ten-goal total made the match the first 5–5 draw in Premier League history and equalled the competition’s highest-scoring draw. It is often remembered alongside 4–4 and 3–3 classics, but neither of those scores matches the record-setting total from this West Brom–United thriller.
