What was the real name of AC/DC's late frontman Bon Scott?

The story behind the answer

What was the real name of AC/DC’s late frontman Bon Scott? The answer is Ronald Belford Scott.

Bon Scott was born Ronald Belford Scott on 9 July 1946 in Forfar, Scotland. His family emigrated to Australia in 1952, and he grew up mainly in Melbourne and Fremantle, Western Australia. The nickname “Bon” reportedly emerged at school from the phrase “Bonnie Scotland,” reflecting his Scottish background.

Before joining AC/DC, Scott sang with Australian groups including the Valentines and Fraternity. He joined AC/DC in 1974 after an introduction through musician Vince Lovegrove, replacing Dave Evans as lead vocalist. His gritty voice, mischievous stage presence and vivid songwriting helped define albums such as T.N.T., Let There Be Rock, Powerage and Highway to Hell.

Scott died in London on 19 February 1980, aged 33, after acute alcohol poisoning. AC/DC subsequently recruited Brian Johnson, and the band recorded Back in Black as a tribute to Scott. “Ronald Scott” and “Belford Scott” are incomplete forms, not his full birth name: the complete name includes both Ronald and Belford.
