The production budget of WALL-E was $180 million. That made it one of Pixar’s most expensive films at the time and reflected the unusual technical demands of creating a largely silent robot drama set across a ruined Earth and outer space.

Andrew Stanton conceived the project from a 1994 brainstorming session at Pixar, but the film remained difficult to develop because the central character had to communicate mostly through movement, sound, and visual performance.
