What was the original Xbox's total worldwide sales figure?

The original Xbox sold over 24 million units worldwide. Microsoft’s first console entered a market dominated by Sony’s PlayStation 2, Nintendo’s GameCube, and Sega’s Dreamcast during the sixth console generation.

The Xbox launched in North America in November 2001 and later reached Japan, Europe, and other regions. Its built-in hard disk, broadband support, and powerful hardware helped distinguish it from competing systems. Halo: Combat Evolved also became a major reason for the platform’s success.

The worldwide total is different from regional sales figures and from the sales of individual Xbox games. It also should not be confused with Microsoft’s later Xbox 360 total, which was substantially higher. The original Xbox was discontinued in 2006 after establishing Microsoft as a major console manufacturer.
