Kenner’s original Star Wars action figures introduced in 1978 were approximately 3.75 inches tall. This compact scale became the defining format of the classic Star Wars toy line and influenced action-figure design for decades.
Kenner chose a smaller format than many earlier superhero and military figures. The size made it easier for children to collect characters and use them with vehicles, playsets, and accessories. It also allowed the company to create a large character roster without making each figure especially expensive.
The figures are sometimes described as “3¾-inch” or “four-inch” toys because manufacturing measurements varied slightly. The standard historical description is 3.75 inches. Later Star Wars lines, including Hasbro’s six-inch Black Series, used different scales and should not be confused with Kenner’s original format.
