What was the original PlayStation 3 controller called?
Answer
Sixaxis
Answer
Sixaxis
The original PlayStation 3 controller was called Sixaxis.
Sixaxis was the standard controller bundled with early PlayStation 3 systems. Its name referred to six-axis motion sensing, allowing the controller to detect orientation and movement across several axes. It resembled the earlier DualShock design but omitted vibration feedback.
Sony later introduced the DualShock 3, which retained the motion-sensing features and restored rumble. This makes the two controllers easy to confuse: Sixaxis was the launch-era name, while DualShock 3 became the better-known later standard controller for the same console generation.
The Sixaxis connected wirelessly through Bluetooth and could also be charged over USB. Its motion controls were used by some PlayStation 3 games, although developers adopted them with varying degrees of emphasis.
