What was the original name of the Professional Darts Corporation when it was founded in 1992?

The story behind the answer

The Professional Darts Corporation was originally called the World Darts Council when it was founded in 1992.

The organisation was created by a group of leading players and business figures who wanted to develop professional darts separately from the British Darts Organisation. It initially operated under the WDC name during a period of major change in televised darts.

The body later became the Professional Darts Corporation, or PDC, and built its own tournament circuit, rankings and world championship. The name change reflected the organisation’s broader professional identity rather than a change to the basic rules of darts.

The World Darts Council should not be confused with the World Darts Federation, the international governing body for the sport. The PDC and WDF now run distinct competitive systems.
