What was the only opening called a window that Genesis says Noah made in the Ark?

The story behind the answer

Genesis 6:16 describes Noah’s Ark as having a window one cubit high. The wording is translated in different ways, and some versions describe an opening or skylight rather than a conventional window.

The instruction appears alongside the Ark’s three levels and side door. Genesis does not provide a modern architectural diagram, so readers should not assume that every translation describes exactly the same physical feature using identical terms.

This one-cubit detail is separate from the Ark’s overall height of 30 cubits. It is also different from the dove episode, in which Noah later appears to use an opening to release birds and observe the outside world.
