What was the only draw in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round?

The story behind the answer

Newcastle United drew 2–2 with Liverpool in the only draw of the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.

The match was played at St James’ Park on Sunday 23 August 2026. Both clubs scored twice, producing one of the weekend’s most balanced results and leaving each side with one point.

The other nine opening-round fixtures produced a winner. That included narrow victories for Manchester City and Leeds United, as well as larger wins for Arsenal, Brentford and Brighton.

The fixture also featured two clubs beginning the season with new managers. Matthias Jaissle was in charge of Newcastle United, while Andoni Iraola had taken over at Liverpool. The 2–2 scoreline gave both managers a point in their first league match of the campaign.
